What We Can Do For You
We’re On Your Side:
Nobody wants to have to hire a lawyer. Choosing a lawyer can be difficult and stressful. We recommend that you don’t try and hire a lawyer over the phone. It’s important to meet with the lawyer to determine if that is the right lawyer to work with. If we don’t believe we are the best lawyers to handle your case, we will give you other lawyers’ contact information. We want to help you. Our clients choose us because we are honest, diligent, responsive, knowledgeable and can use our experience to get the best outcome possible for your case. We will explain our process, communicate our strategy and use our expertise to try your case, file motions and/or resolve the case to protect your interests.
A lawyer is needed for a DUII or other vehicular related case because each case is unique, complicated and has lasting effects on your life. It’s important to consider both long and short term consequences. You can ask us questions and there won’t be hidden fees. We know that each case is the most important case to our clients so we treat our clients like we would want our lawyer to treat us. Our philosophy is to use the law and our experience to your advantage. This includes analyzing the case for legal defenses, factual defenses, assisting with the court process, DMV process and other penalties you may hope to avoid or reduce. We will give you a genuine assessment of your case and your options when we have all the facts. Our reasoning will be based on years of jury trial experience, the statutes and case law that applies to your case and how we can help. We hope that you give us a chance to work for you or your loved one.
For the past 30 years, Thuemmel Uhle & Eder have specialized in DUII defense. Coordinating a defense with the Motor Vehicles Division, the Courts, and with issues of possible jail, license suspension, and job consequences has been what we do on a daily basis for a variety of clients with a variety of different needs. Oregon’s “no plea bargaining” law tying the hands of prosecutors in DUI defense cases is a good fit for the style of Thuemmel Uhle & Eder, where experience has taught us over and over again that jury trials often lead to more successful outcomes. At a minimum, the hours of preparation and dedication building a defense is in our client’s interest. We work on a flat fee so the client can call, e-mail or meet with us without worrying about whether there will be an additional charge.
Who We Are
Ben Eder, David Eder, Bob Thuemmel and Bill Uhle, our Portland DUI Lawyers, have combined to try well over 2,000 vehicle cases to Oregon Juries. They have repeatedly been asked to teach other lawyers at continued legal education seminars regarding trial skills.
They have written for and edited leading Oregon publications on the topic of impaired driving, including the DUI Trial Notebook, and are recognized by their peers in “Oregon’s Best Lawyers,” “The Best Lawyers in America” and “Super Lawyers” legal publications as outstanding in their field.
Treating The Client Fairly
We have always felt that it is important to give every client the quality of representation that we would each want for ourselves, or close friends and family members.
We will always offer to meet with you and explain the law or evaluate your case for no charge. Once HIRED, we will make all court appearances and explain to you any options you have to settle your case before trial. However, we will face a trial decision realistically and explain to you the pros and cons of a trial in your case. We have a passion for jury trials and prepare each case like it be litigated through a jury trial. Our level of preparation and experience has led to successful civil and criminal jury trials.
Please let us use our knowledge of the vehicle code, cross examining experts, settlement and litigation skills to help you stand up to insurance companies and get a fair result or defend your criminal case.
David is one of the top young lawyers in the country, but he doesn’t act like it. He is respected in the legal community and is also easy to respect as a human being. He is personable and treats you as though you’re his only client. He was extremely easy to work with and did a great job communicating through the entire process.
The thing that was most apparent to me, and most impressive [about Ben] was not only the process of jury selection, but also the way Ben addressed the jury members – explaining the process of the trial. Whereas the prosecutor was frequently and obviously boring the jury, the minute Ben spoke every one was paying rapt attention. He is definitely a gifted communicator.
As a career police officer, I’ve seen lots of lawyers. I have never met a lawyer so sharp, dedicated and effective as David Eder. When my mom was injured in an auto accident, I called him immediately.
David was easy to work with and went above and beyond for us with all companies involved. Ultimately, fighting for us to ensure that we were taken care of from all angles. We were in great hands. Thank you David for your prompt, honest, and personal service!
If I could say only one thing about Ben, it would be that he ACTUALLY CARES. This is a Lawyer who would call me to make sure I understood everything that was going on at every step, even through all the moving pieces and slight changes. My case was complicated and spread between two counties, there were A LOT of moving pieces and changes. He would also ask how I was doing with everything and actually remembered the little details about my case and my life at the time.
Ben doesn’t hand off the job to someone else. He is there for you for every step of the way, and readily answers any and all questions you may have. And is easy to reach. And he knows the system inside out, and has many colleagues and associates in the business. You can sense that his genuine goal is to help people in this unfortunate situation. Don’t even think twice about it. Just hire Ben.
